Just exactly how do you breed the new dragonvale butterfly dragon? Finally, the long awaited for 
dragonvale update is here and it has come with three new dragons which are the dragonvale butterfly dragon, dragonvale plasma dragon and the dragonvale current dragon.
For now, let us look at more about the dragonvale butterfly dragon while the rest of the new dragonvale dragons will be discussed on other blog posts in this blog. Even before we look into dragonvale buttefly dragon breeding, here are some facts you may want to know:
- Dragonvale Butterfly Dragon Elements
If you have seen the dragonvale butterfly dragon picture, you will appreciate its beautiful purple caterpillar colors that makes it one of the most captivating dragonvale dragon that you will ever breed. As such, this dragonvale dragon comes with three elements which are basically air, fire and lightning.
- More about the dragonvale Butterfly Dragon
Due to the fact that the butterfly dragon in dragonvale has air, lightning and fire as its elements, you can use any of the given habitats for its breeding. Therefore, the habitat for dragonvale butterfly dragon can either be dragonvale air habitat, dragonvale fire habitat or dragonvale lightning habitat.
While young, the butterfly dragon is not so pretty. However, when it grows up, it will spread its wings and turn into a beautiful adult butterfly dragon.
- Breeding the Dragonvale Butterfly Dragon
As soon as you reach level 14 of dragonvale game play, you can as well begin breeding your dragonvale butterfly dragon. The incubation period for the butterfly dragon is 12 hours while the butterfly dragon egg is pink in color with red round rings that are dotted yellow and orange in their inner circles. Should you wish to sell your butterfly dragon after breeding it, it will sell for 500,000 dragonvale coins.
Here are some of the best breeding combinations for dragonvale butterfly dragon:
- Dragonvale firefly Dragon and Dragonvale Air dragon
- Dragonvale sonic dragon and Dragonvale FireflyDragon
- Dragonvale Air Dragon and Dragonvale Firefly Dragon
Dragonvale butterfly dragon can be bred with any combinations of its elements though the above listed are the ones that have been recorded as the best breeding combinations for dragonvale butterfly dragon.The breeding for butterfly dragon takes place in a normal breeding cave or on the breeding island.

Firefly(lvl10) and air(lvl10) worked for butterfly.
Lightning(lvl10) and seaweed(lvl11) worked for plasma.

Couldn’t get butterfly with air & firefly. Tried many times. Gave up went on to plasma lightening left seaweed right, got 48 hr incubation on second try. Hope its my elusive rainbow!

I’ve bred 2 in a row air (left) firefly (right). Immediate results for me. 118 coins per minute at level 10 once put in fire habitat. Just so you know.

I think i got Butterfly with Firefly (lvl 14) & Air (lvl 10), is breading for 12 hours after 5 or 6 times trying.
I gave tried 8 times but still nothing

I’m on about try 20 with still no luck at all. Both EBI and breeding cave, combos of Firefly+Air and Firefly+Sonic. Endless scorch, fireflys, blazing and sonics, but no Butterfly.
I have a feeling that if you have not made a recent in game purchase, that your chances or rares are lowered. About to test this theory and buy something to see if it makes a difference. It helped once in the past when trying to breed Bloom with no luck. Could it be a coincidence?

I’ve tried these combination as about 20 times and no luck with the butterfly! Air +firefly, viceversa, and with sonic. Bit frustrated. Also have befriended a few people here that say they will give me gems. Got a gem tree and have been sending gems but so far have got no gems from my “friends”. Great! : (

Like most of you, I have been breeding a firefly and air, firefly and sonic, and scorch and sonic. No go. Been doing two 2 three times a day since the quickest is 3 hours.
My theory it is very random on if the game chooses to let u have the legendary, or limited dragons.
I m still trying to get blue fire and frost fire dragons. And bombing out on those as well. I m taking advantage right now in collecting money or placing and upgrading my 50 dragons to level 10, so i can beable to upgrade to 20.
I have added a few of you to my friends list.
Lvl 10 Air + Lvl 10 Firefly in cave worked for me after about 20 tries. Its the best combo to use because for failed attempts the wait time is shorter than the other viable combos. If you use Air and Firefly and get a 12 hour timer then you definitely got Butterfly. As with any viable combo, getting Butterfly is random, so stick with it and you’ll eventually get it!
PS: I’m looking for gem friends. Add me if you’re looking for someone who will actually gem you back!

Hi guys I’ve been trying for ages to get a butterfly. Finally I got about 30 fire hundreds from attempts and so got a silver shrine. Got it on first try with firefly at level 11 right and blazing level 11 left. The higher the levels the easier it appears to be. Hope that helps

FINALLY!! I finally got a butterfly dragon. That felt like forever! I tried every combo suggested at least 5 times each and it finally worked with Air + Firefly on my breeding island.
Is the butterfly dragon going away? I saw the front page of dragonvale showed that it is going on the 21 of june. Please tell me if this is true cause I still haven’t have it.
